A sculptural pendant necklace crafted from Irish bog oak and finished with precious metal.
Created in Athenry by Daniel Hielscher, the maker behind Darach Órga, each pendant begins with a fragment of authentic Irish bog oak preserved beneath Ireland’s peatlands for thousands of years. Over time, the oak undergoes a natural fossilization process within the bog, transforming the wood into a dense material with deep black tones and striking grain patterns.
The wood is carefully collected and sculpted according to its natural form, allowing the curves and textures shaped over millennia to guide the design. Once the shape is refined, Daniel accents the jewelry with precious metal. Suspended from a classic burnt brass chain, the final piece blends organic texture with modern elegance.
Because every piece of bog oak is unique and each pendant is individually crafted by hand, no two necklaces are ever exactly alike. Each one carries a small fragment of Ireland’s ancient landscape, preserved through form and craft.

Darach Órga
Rooted in Ireland’s ancient landscape, Daniel Hielscher, the maker behind Darach Órga, creates jewelry shaped by time itself.
Working from his studio in Athenry, County Galway, Daniel begins each design with a remarkable material: Irish bog oak that has rested beneath peatlands for thousands of years. Carefully collected and hand-selected, these ancient fragments of wood often date back more than 5,000 years, preserved by the unique conditions of Ireland’s bogs.
Rather than imposing a predetermined design, this artist allows the natural form of the wood to guide the process. Each piece of bog oak is studied, carved, and refined into a small sculpture that honors the grain, texture, and organic shape shaped by centuries underground. These sculptural forms are then finished in gold or silver, transforming ancient timber into contemporary jewelry.
The result is jewelry that carries a profound connection to Ireland’s past. No two pieces are ever alike. Each design reflects both the unique character of the wood and the quiet dialogue between maker and material.
At Éirden, we selected Darach Órga for its extraordinary sense of place and craft. These pieces transform ancient Irish wood into modern heirlooms—jewelry that holds history, artistry, and landscape in a single form.
Each piece is handcrafted in Ireland and curated as part of our verified Irish artisan collection.
To care for your jewellery, handle gently and keep it away from water and damp conditions. Store it in a dry place, avoid sharp surfaces, and occasionally refresh the wood with a small amount of linseed oil using a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh cleaners, as they can damage the natural wood and other materials.
